BIG changes (and a little update)

big update

Hiii, Happy New Year!

I have some very happy and some not so great news, and I will try to explain it all in as few words as I possibly can.

Since I set up The Happy Newspaper, on my own, in my bedroom back in December 2015 it has grown in ways I could never have imagined.

As you may or may not know, in the past year I have signed a book deal with Penguin Random House to create an interactive book called ‘Make Someone Happy’ off the back of The Happy Newspaper, continuing to try and make a few people’s words a tiny bit happier. My range of greeting cards (under ‘The Happy News’ brand) have been published and will be available in most shops in the UK over the next couple of months. Finally, at the end of 2016 I signed a licensing deal with DRi Licensing (who also represent the likes of Roald Dahl?!) to license ‘The Happy News’ – Which is incredible in all kinds of ways and means I can grow the brand, making lots more people smile along the way.

Eventually all of these things will take a load off me (for example, I won’t have to pack and post all of the newspapers individually in my home and drag sacks of parcels to the post office every week!) However, at the moment I’m still doing absolutely all of it on my own… Designing, Illustrating, editing the newspaper, packing and posting, emails, social media etc. on top of the book/cards/gift products/important stuff/sleeping etc.

I’m currently in the process of figuring out the best way to move everything forward whilst keeping it the same Happy Newspaper that you all know and love. So, I am going to put the newspaper on hold until the NEXT issue. Therefore there won’t be an issue beginning of March, instead, there will be a bigger issue in Summer.

I’ve had to think long and hard about this and didn’t want to let anyone down… but I hope you can understand that I’m doing the jobs of about 20 different people every day and it’s physically impossible at the moment. I would hate for the newspaper or book to suffer because I was trying to do TOO much.

There is a new FAQ section on the website which should hopefully answer most of your questions, should you have any.

So sorry to have to do this, I really didn’t want to! But I will continue to update Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and will start updating the website more too! to make sure your happy news is topped up enough in the meantime. Please know that I am taking this time to grow the brand and make it accessible to SO many more people – It’s so very exciting, but also overwhelming and terrifying at times… so please bear with me!

I’ll be in touch as soon as I have any more info,
Thank you all for being absolutely magic and wonderful, I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without your support.

Keep smiling copy

That’s fantastic Emily. Not so good news for me as I’ve only just found you when I was in search of some british humour. I’m living in Germany. Still, I’ve ordered some of your products that are still available from your shop.

Good luck in your new ventures.

If you try to be everything to everyone eventually you will wear yourself out then you will be nothing to everyone. Take a deep breathe, embrace it all and when you are feeling it move forward again with passion!

    Hi Emily,

You gave me a copy of Happy News on the tube this summer when my two kids were squabbling over another newspaper. I was touched by your small act of kindness and as for the newspaper itself, well… WE LOVE IT!

I’m an English teacher in France and your newspaper has inspired me to want to spread more positivity in my classroom this year. If it’s alright by you, I’d like to start each school week with a ‘Happy News’ story with one of my classes and share some of the happy vibes that they bring.

Also, I’m going to ask to school to subscribe so that we can have a copy in the library.

Keep up the amazing work 🙂
